Android 11 is on the way to launch after the BETA testings. Though I feel Android 10 is not stable I get bugs on it every time and every time the bugs are different. Android 11 is developer preview was out for quite some time now, the developer preview 3 is out now. If you want to try the Android 11 developer preview 3 you can install it on your Pixel devices. The developer preview was going in February, developer preview 2 in March, and developer preview 3 is launched now in April. Google is going to release Android 11 in the second half of the year. There are some changes made in developer preview 3 these are as follows.
Changes In Developer Preview 3
App Exit Reason Updates
Apps gets exited because of lots reasons some times due to crash or some other failure. Android 11 makes this easier with an exit reasons API that you can use to request details of the app’s recent exits. So the reasons of why app is exited abnormally can be logged automatically and will be sent to developer. Google has updated the API to make it easier to know how and why the app is crashed through this new API.
GWP-ASan heap analysis
This is a security improvement. Now GWP-Asan will help the developers to find out the memory safety issues. Basically it is a tool which will help to find out the memory errors without causing any major harm or impact on the performance of the device. Now Google enabled GWP A-San by default in platform binaries and system apps.
ADB Incremental
This one is for developers who installs large APK files through ADB (Android Debug Bridge). Installing APK’s while developing can be slower process for those APK’s which are 2GB+ in size. So now with this update the app installations will be 10X times faster. Now this features is available on Pixel 4/XL as the requirement of file system change at device level. Developers will need to first sign your APK with the new APK signature scheme v4 format, and then install your APK with the updated ADB command line tool found in the Android 11 Preview SDK. This new file system will be supported by all the device launching with Android 11 in future.
Wireless Debugging
Revamped debugging experience while using data of WiFi. As per the Google Blog “With limited USB ports on laptops, and a myriad of USB cables & connections to manage, the Wireless Debugging feature in Android 11 can help you be more productive. Unlike the existing TCP/IP debugging workflow, Wireless Debugging on Android 11 does not need a cable to set up, remembers connections over time, and can utilize the full speed of the latest Wi-Fi standards”.
App Compatibility and Data Access Auditing Updates
According to Google, “Data access auditing lets developer instrument. Their app to better understand how it accesses user data and from which user flows. Additionally, several APIs have been renamed and hence it is advised to check out the changes.” basically data auditing is used to understand how your app uses or access the user’s data.
For app compatibility, Google is now finalizing its API’s and other features and they are focusing on polishing and performances. Developers need to begin testing your app for compatibility and identify any work you’ll need to do. Google recommends releasing a compatible app update by Android 11 Beta to get feedback from the larger group of Android Beta users.
