Recently, Facebook acquired Giphy a popular GIF platform. Giphy is one of the most popular GIF sharing platforms right now, Which was used in lots of applications. Facebook seems to integrate Giphy to Instagram and other Facebook apps. Giphy said in their Blog, they will work with the Instagram team now and will be integrated with other apps too. Though the deal cost is not revealed yet. But leaks suggest Facebook acquired Giphy for $400 Million. After the deal, Facebook published blog posts welcoming Giphy on Facebook.

Giphy was founded in 2013 by Alex Chung and Jace Coke as a GIF search engine. After its launch, it became more popular and got a million users in a week. later they got integrated with Twitter and Facebook. Giphy enabled users to post, share, embed the GIFs using GIF URLs in their sites as well as social media sites. The interesting thing almost half of the traffic of Giphy comes from Facebook since from start. Giphy previously acquired Nutmeg which was a messenger platform. Later both were integrated into Facebook messenger.
One more thing about Giphy is they launched Giphy cam back in 2015. This Giphy cam allowed users to directly share the GIFs available on the platform directly to social media sites. half of the traffic for Giphy comes from Facebook family apps like Instagram. It will be beneficial for Facebook as well as Giphy to make their service better.
Facebook ensured in their blog post that, Facebook will not be available only Facebook. Also, it clarified that “people will still be able to upload GIFs; developers and API partners will continue to have the same access to GIPHY’s APIs, and GIPHY’s creative community will still be able to create great content.” So it will be the same as before but it will be exclusively integrated with the Facebook family apps.
