A lot of people including me sometimes just get tired of flashing. The flashing and trying out mods has a specific time in our life. After some point, you will not be interested in flashing due to obvious reasons. Here is the future of flashing ROMs, You will be able to flash custom ROMs through web browser!! Yeah, you heard it right.
Personally, after getting a new phone and pretending that everything’s good. I just root my device whenever I get the time it’s like a habit I can’t resist. I will root the new phone if there’s any chance of rooting and trying out other stuff. You all can relate to it.
There are device specific guides and stuffs available for rooting and flashing ROMs on your devices. But getting to know all those terms and everything is fun but might be difficult for the new users. Also, for those users who just don’t want to invest a lot time in these guides.
Flash Custom ROMs Through Web Browser
There was already some discussion when Google launched the GSI. To simplify the flashing, flash custom ROMS through a web browser seems like a promising one. Danny Lin, as kDrag0n on XDA forums, made fastboot.js javascript implementation of the fastboot protocol using WebUSB API. You can check his Fastboot.js git here. He is already managing ProtonAOSP for Google Pixel 5.
He already made the Android web installer that runs totally in the browser itself. If your device is supported by the ProtonAOSP project then you can try his installer and try flashing now!! Links are in the bottom of the post. kDrag0n also made the installer for GrapheneOS you can try that one out too. I think the future will be flash custom ROMs through web browser.
The chromium already supports the WebUSB API, so the Chrome or Microsoft edge is compatible for this one. You will need to install some fastboot drivers to be able to detect your device in your Windows PC. If you are interested for flash custom ROMs through web browser check the below links.
