Microsoft is right now on the hunt for buying off the game studios. Microsoft recently bought the ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion in cash. If you don’t know the ZeniMax Media is the parent company of Bethesda which made some of the best selling games like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc.
This sudden ownership of ZeniMax Media, now Microsoft acquired all of its under gaming studios. One of the biggest name is Bethesda. Now the big boy has The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Wayne Gretzky Hockey, Prey, Quake, and more ownerships. The Windows guy is making a stronghold for a never-ending battle between Playstation and Xbox.
Now in total, Microsoft has almost 23 first-party studios with the addition of Bethesda and Arkane. Microsoft is making strong moves to give out great content for the Xbox Game Pass. There was one point between Xbox and Playstation and it was about the Exclusives. Now it might change all of that. Surely, Microsoft is making some strong commitments.
It Won’t End With Bethesda
You might think this will be the end of acquiring studios. But it’s not, it won’t end with ZeniMax media. As per the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s statement, Microsoft will always look out for more targets.
You can’t wake up one day and say, ‘Let me build a game studio,'”. Creating new game studios is a challenging task, a fact that makes acquisition an ideal growth vector for Microsoft. Nadella also stated that “The idea of having content is so we can reach larger communities.

But here are the good things about this acquisition. Microsoft said they will not interfere in anything with these studios. They will work as per their previous agreements and the game development will run as it’s been running till now. So the Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop would be still release on Playstation despite being a Microsoft Subsidiary.
The Xbox Boss Phil Spensor said, “Content is just the incredible ingredient to our platform that we continue to invest in. This doubles the size of our creative organization”. The Xbox players might get some of the best exclusives and access to games on day one of the releases.
We’ll always look for places where there is that commonality of purpose, mission and culture
Satya Nadella
If you are wondering, the statement came from Microsoft. All of the Bethesda games will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one of its release. Microsoft is correct on its stand, its better to buy off the studios than making one in day. But surely, there’s a lot content to come up on Xbox.
