Earlier, Qualcomm announced their new flagship series chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 created lots of hype citing the performance improvements. The approximate 20% improvements from previous gen whereas AI most hyped in this chipset. It is supposedly processed 40000X more than the predecessors. So the first smartphone Moto X3 launched with Snapdragon 8 gen 1. According to some sources, Snapdragon 8 gen 1 is overheating in Moto Edge X3.
The manager of Motorola Chen Jin on Weibo stated the features like an aluminium frame to keep the device cool. The tweet says about the HOOT year for Android phones. So might be the problem is chip centric not in the hands-on Motorola in cooling. Qualcomm uses the Samsung 4nm node and ARM V9 architecture that is said as highly power efficient. So, the chipset should run cooler but might be a problem with additional performance gains and also some are pointing out the 4nm process.
Some are also pointing out Moto might not be throttling the chipset. If you don’t know what throttling is, thermal throttling occurs when the processor heats up under the constant heavy load tasks. Like, gaming, video recording or using processor-heavy apps. To stop this damage of overheating some companies puts a stop to the temperatures. If the CPU reaches that value the CPU will throttle that is powered down.
To compensate for this we are now seeing cooling solutions like vapor chamber cooling and all. Because the throttling gets loss in performance. Also, smartphones are getting slimmer so there are not many solutions available to be used.
