The news was surfacing about the launch of new Xiaomi products and UI. So today Xiaomi launched the MIUI 12 alongside some products in China. MI 10 Youth Edition with 50X zoom also launched today alongside with MI watch and Bluetooth earphone. Check the details of the MI 10 Youth Edition here. Same as the last year MIUI 11 was launched, the MIUI 12 brings some new features. Animations, Transitions, some privacy features, and speed. Let’s check out MIUI 12 features one by one. Also, The devices eligible for MIUI 12 are revealed today.
More cleaner and flatter User Interface
Some users feel that MIUI is a really heavy user interface and its true. Xiaomi this time tried to make its user interface better and cleaner by using flat tiles and icons design. As you can see in the above screenshots there is space between the texts, brighter and punchier backgrounds. The more managed and organized design is made. Xiaomi also included some new UI for every system apps coming with the MIUI bundled. Just like revamped settings and other apps.
Cleaner and flatter UI seems more visually pleasing, though there’s no mention of UI ads as we have seen on Redmi budget phones. The UI ads are really awful on MIUI 11 running budget smartphones. Other than that it’s all good.
New MIUI 12 Styled Animations
There are new animations available now in MIUI 12 system. The home screen animation transitions animations tec. The system apps deletion animations and lots of other animations are changed in this edition of MIUI. Interesting thing is Xiaomi even compared transitions with the iOS 13 transitions. In the live event they even challenged iOS for smoother animations. That’s big things we’ll see mealtime results once it gets received to various devices.
Almost every system and apps animations are modified. So you can expect some new things in MIUI with the new animations. Xiaomi has refreshed almost every animation from charging, notification, app opening, closing. Check the above video.
Gestures
Xiaomi was the first one on Android to adopt the navigations gesture on Android 10 which were different. This time with MIUI 12 navigations the navigations are somewhat same as the Android 10. They will be somewhat different from the ones which are available right now. Check the video below for more reference.
Live Wallpapers and Ambient Displays
Nowadays almost every mid-range to higher-end phones are using AMOLED displays. It can be useful in using Ambient displays. The more new live wallpapers are now available for MIU 12. New AOD displays are also available. We will post the live wallpapers for sure once they are available. The first wallpapers which was revealed were of aerial view of the earth. When you unlock the phone the live wallpapers will be activated. Check out the above video for more visual reference. The Zoom in Zoom out of the wallpapers is arranged really well. Privacy Features
MIUI 12 this time in the live event they were more focused on the privacy and securities. Some new privacy features were announced today like Mask, flare and barbed wire. They also mentioned that they passed the “Android enhanced privacy test” too, that’s really good. Though I still doubt about the privacy on MIUI cause the kind of ads they pushed on my used devices was utter trash.
Flare feature
The flare feature was introduced as a privacy feature. This feature will notify when any app is using some extensive permissions. Such as when an app is using the locations or camera the flare on the recent menu will display a camera or location. So in this way, you will get to know which app is using the which permissions and are running on your Android smartphone.
Barbed Wire
The name is only different but it performs the same function. The feature like when any app wants any permissions the pop-ups will appear like Allow only once, allow in this app only or rejecting the requests. So the name is only different for the MIUI 12.
Mask
This is something new announced for the privacy section. Mask will allow you to restrict the apps who uses your critical information such as IMEI numbers, contacts, calendars, and call logs. It will also allow you to give some kind of virtual identity that will spoof any app which is getting or accessing your information without your consent.
Picture In Picture (PIP) and AI Calling
We have already known the picture in picture mode. It is now available in many other UI’s and other apps too like YouTube. Floating chat windows for better multi-tasking activities. Also, Xiaomi added lots of new enhancements for the new picture in picture mods for multitasking.
Remembe, Google Artificial Intelligence calling which was showcased last year on Google Assistant. Now Xiaomi is adding the same feature with the MIUI 12. This will be in handy for people with hearing disability, the conversation will be fully transcribed with the responses which will be AI generated. They can choose the AI generated responses instead of speaking to keep the conversation going.
Fitness and Sleep Tracker
Xiaomi mostly provides all the required sensors on every phone, So by using th Gyro sensor now it can measure walking, running excessive, stair climbing and cycling. Again, Xiaomi compared this with the Apple watch and said this will be accurate approximately to 96% as the Apple Watch. MIUI 12 will also include and inbuilt sleep tracking system.
